I got the mirror installed today and figured a few might enjoy a look.

Say "hi" to your "knee" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I like the idea especially while mowing with my kids in the yard. Tractors are like kid magnets and I've caught myself not always looking before I back up only to see them running behind me later .

That’s why I did it, I have two small kids (4 and 9) and I just wanted an extra safety measure.

The mirror on the loader arm is one of those convex (right word?) mirrors so it actually works very well and lets you see right down the side of the tractor and as high as the bagger in back.

I don't believe that any amount of mirrors are enough when you have young children in the yard when you are using the tractor. My opinion, for what it is worth, is to make sure that the other parent keeps the children in the house when you are using the tractor. As you have said, tractors are kid magnets, and it isn't possible to keep a 360 degree vigil every second that you are on the seat. It only takes a second for something to go terribly wrong. That is why I believe that the proper place for children is in the house when dad is on the tractor.

Just from the danger of a mower throwing things across the yard, is enough for me to never mow when anyone is around.

I drove past a farm house a couple years ago where the guy was mowing the lawn with a child in a little red wagon being pulled behind the mower, while mowing. I had to go back and confront the guy. He didn't like being told, but I couldn't resist. If he continued after knowing what could puncture his child, I at least figure he was fully aware of it.

But I often see mowers going with children playing in the same yard within a few feet of the mowers, as well as adults doing things in the yard or a neighbors yard (while mowing). Hard to understand.

Sorry, don't mean to preach, or impune anyone. Just something to be aware of when mowing. I think we all know of the dangers, and the risks. But then, people still smoke too. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif And that is their choice, as I see it.

Good advice from all!

My kids have never been allowed to be in the yard when I’m mowing the lawn or doing anything on the old garden tractor or the new Kubota.

I’m a safety freak and I always try to plan for the unexpected. You can never be perfect but you can always increase the odds in your favor!

This was a very easy and cheap mod that not only adds a little bit of safety but also might stop me from smacking something else (the shed, my truck, etc.).

Not to mention that it’s just plain fun doing mods to the tractor!
