Until proven otherwise, my claim is to have the only diesel powered 1965 John Deere model 110 in the world!
See the pics!
I started this project when the original Kohler 8hp engine did not perform, was leaking oil, hard to start, etc. A new short block was going to cost over $500! Finally, enough is enough, I started looking for something else.
On eBay, found a Yanmar clone 10hp one cylinder diesel engine, bid on it and won it for $560 plus S/H.
With my Dad's help, we removed the Kohler, and started the trial and error part of seeing what needed to be cut off with a cutting torch, or what needed the touch of a grinder.
This process took about one week. The only place where I had to cut into the body or outside panels was the hood where it contacted the air cleaner. There was no apparent way to avoid this, so I carefully made a triangular notch in the fiberglas hood on one side.
It runs great! It even has that distinctive diesel "whine" when it starts and gets up RPM. It is no more loud than a gas powered engine when driving, and have been told it is not bad for others standing a few feet away. It starts right up!
I will use this JD for pulling my "barrel train" in parades and for other festivals and parties. Check out my barrel train at "jigglebug.com"
All in all the job looks pretty good if I say so myself.
If anyone would like more info they are invited to send an email and I will respond.
Note- I am still working on how to attach my pics to this post. If anyone sends me an email I will be happy to attach them to the email.
Thanks,
