Until proven otherwise, my claim is to have the only diesel powered 1965 John Deere model 110 in the world!
See the pics!
I started this project when the original Kohler 8hp engine did not perform, was leaking oil, hard to start, etc. A new short block was going to cost over $500! Finally, enough is enough, I started looking for something else.
On eBay, found a Yanmar clone 10hp one cylinder diesel engine, bid on it and won it for $560 plus S/H.
With my Dad's help, we removed the Kohler, and started the trial and error part of seeing what needed to be cut off with a cutting torch, or what needed the touch of a grinder.
This process took about one week. The only place where I had to cut into the body or outside panels was the hood where it contacted the air cleaner. There was no apparent way to avoid this, so I carefully made a triangular notch in the fiberglas hood on one side.
It runs great! It even has that distinctive diesel "whine" when it starts and gets up RPM. It is no more loud than a gas powered engine when driving, and have been told it is not bad for others standing a few feet away. It starts right up!
I will use this JD for pulling my "barrel train" in parades and for other festivals and parties. Check out my barrel train at "jigglebug.com"
All in all the job looks pretty good if I say so myself.
If anyone would like more info they are invited to send an email and I will respond.

Note- I am still working on how to attach my pics to this post. If anyone sends me an email I will be happy to attach them to the email.
Thanks,

Nice Job! It almost looks "factory."

My parents still have their JD 112 which they bought new in 1969. It also has another engine in it, but has been a very good tractor over the past 30+ years.

They bought the white and red coloring scheme back then so they could be different than the farmers with their big green & yellow tractors.

They gave me the associated trailer which is much heavier built than anything I have seen new. It also works as good as ever.

Your thread brought back some good memories.

There was fellow at the Little G show in Dyersville, Iowa, last year that had a 110 with a narrow front and a two cylinder Yanmar diesel. I belive he was from Wisconsin. I never hear the tractor run but it was a beautiful piece of equipment.

Good looking job and I like the Ag tires. Wish I could fabricate metal the ways so many of you guys do.

Thank you for your kind comment.
It was faith and my Dad's help that put it all together.

Hi Yooper Dave,
Thanks and glad to hear from you. These 110's look so "cute" that I had to have this used one when I found it seven years ago. The original owner had used it and then allowed his children to play "bumper car" with the trees with it in his back yard. It was in sad shape when I first saw it, but I had vision and a helpful family. The original John Deere paint (pre 1974?) was $50 a gallon! Bought it anyway.
The new diesel engine really fit well with a minimum of modifications.

Hi TCowner,
Well darn! I was hoping to have the first of one-of-a-kind garden tractor, but guess I will have to settle for the first and only one in Texas then.

Hi MarkV,
Thank you for your kind words. The ag tires make it look 4WD, but of course it is not so. Note- I didn't do any metal fabrication on this project. Unless you count using a cutting torch on unnecessary flanges or struts that were in the way. The only cosmetic cutting was in the hood, which had to be cut slightly for the air cleaner. Otherwise, it went surprisingly easy for just buying the engine using a picture only and hoping it would fit.
