Thanks everyone, the deer farming experience has been very rewarding so far! Lots of ups and downs, but the ups outnumber the downs. I'll try to keep more photos coming when I get some more. See ya soon!

nice pix
but I think the one in the third pictures was the one that jumped the fence by the road and did $5400 worth of damage to my Vibe last fall

Deer farming?

Yes we farm deer behind an 8' fence. We sell them to other breeders and hunting preserves. You have to possess a license to buy and sell deer so it's not like I can sell one to just anybody.

How much land do you have them on?

Interesting, never heard of that term.

We have about 75 head on about 17 acres. I could hold double that amount on that acreage.

I don't know if I could grow enough garden to feed that many deer.

Thanks, I thought they were more free range than that.

We feed them a pelleted food that we have made at the mill and delivered to the house.

I see they are not eating the grass down which I would have thought they would on 17 acres. Do they come to a feeder?

no they leave the nice grass alone. Every year, the bermuda comes back thicker than before. They prefer the iron weeds and stuff the cattle will not touch. But leaves are like candy to them, they are browsers more so then grazers. and for the most part they do come to a feeder, they are livestock. We bottle raise the fawns that we know will be staying on the farm so that they will be easier to handle.
