I'm planning on starting the build on my canopy, that will eventually be a cab, and wanted to get some ideas on what ya'll have done. I plan to build the frame for the canopy from 2x2" .120 wall, and leave the opportunity for framing in a partial or possibly full cab in the future. I'll ad some flat bar in the front to mount a light bar and flashers, as well as a fan. What's a good material for a top? I was thinking a 1/8" sheet of steel would suit the job well, and do a full seam weld and use a flapper wheel to make it seamless and purdy.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Chris

Here's a link to my full cage ROPS/FOPS build... perhaps it will stimulate ideas in your case. Good luck! Show us what you come up with...

Very well done! I haven't gone through the whole thread, but I love what you did in the first eight pages. Makes me want to go balls to the wall! ha ha. I love fabricating. I'll study it closer as time allows. Thanks for the help man!

I read Greg's writeup and although I have a canopy on my tractor, the thing would wiggle considerably when rolling over ruts and such. My concern was the 4 bolts holding the entire rops/canopy assembly on the pto cast iron. So I welded up some front supports which can be unbolted. They are now off to the powder coat shop to match the ROPS which I had done a month earlier in hammertone black. The wiggles have stopped and I now have a nifty way of pulling myself up into the seat. I am no pro welder, but the welds are strong. Nothing a grinder can't make look pretty!

This is the only pic I have my ZT mower or tractor canopy that I made. This is the ZD326 canopy, but the tractor canopy is pretty much the same, there is a slight difference in the frame dimensions since the ZD has a slighly smallerroll bar.

I bought two used golf cart canopies for $50 each, then made the frame of 1"x2" and 1"x1". In this pic, the frame isn't even done, I can't believe I have no other pics, sorry.

Looks good! I'll definitely end up building a frame in the front. What size tube and wall is that? Judging from the radius, I would guess .095?

Thanks!

Man that's a clean garage!

Anyway, whatever you make the too of, I recommend a fibre pad, plywood or foam insulation sheet of some sort be added on the underside. Canopies and toppers can be super bright when reflecting sound.

That's really good information! I've never had a canopy, so I would have never thought of that. Thanks!

Chris

Edit: Yes, he has a very nice looking garage!

Thanks guys!
Garage is a new addon last year. Was nice and clean until we moved in and all the leftover electrical material (electrical contractor here) ended up in there

Tube is 1.5 or 2" Home Depot steel.

This is what the garage should look like once I get it cleared out again

I'd be scared to do anything in that garage it's too clean.
