Was perusing Facebook marketplace the other day and came across some large auger bits for my PHD, figured now that I have a larger tractor I could actually run them. Was able to get a 24" and 18" for what I consider a pretty good price.

They have seen a little wear but nothing bad, found a name on the replaceable tip, appear to be made by McMillen and they are already setup for a 2in shaft.

Do I need them? Probably not, but figured at $45ea I couldn't go wrong. (They are some heavy suckers though!) 20201230_104002.jpeg

Good score....

The biggest I could get and have used on either of my phd is a 12"...
The used bits I got with the old phd were kind of beat up.. Straitened the flutes, unscrewed the center cutter and coated it with anti seize compound..
Replaced cutting teeth on one.. The other I had to make new cutting teeth out of common mild steel flat stock.. The worked well, just needed replaced often.. Easy enough to do..

In the ground here, I likely could use a 24".. It would be nice to have when planting fruit, berry bushes and trees.. Like my Sweetie says, you prepare a $100 hole for a $10 bush for best results..
And that is true..
