Picked up a yerf-dog \'scout\' CUV yesterday

The wifes been bugging me for a golf cart/CUV/ATV type vehicle that she can use to run around the farm in.. I kept telling her to use a tractor.. as there were plenty parked in the barn for her to use.. but she didn't go for that idea. TSC was carrying the yerf-dog.. but sold them and started stocking the easy-go... Our local store still had one unsold yerf-dog and i dickered with the manager enough to get a decent discount. Got it home yesterday... Found some loose hardware on it I need to fix.. otherwise unit starts easilly.. runs decent. It's a tad noisy.. but then.. no worse than a tractor. Had fun showing the wife how to drive it... glad it has seatbelts and rops /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Only holds 1.24 quarts engine oil.. and 7oz gear oil! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: Picked up a yerf-dog \'scout\' CUV yesterday

Our TSC has one of those things as well... and my wife was asking for one, mainly so she could drag a chain harrow over her riding ring, and mow a field when I was away on business.

I ended up getting her a brand new Wheelhorse Classic GT, with a 6 speed tranny. I figured the chain harrow would be too heavy (at around 350lbs) for an ATV to pull with no low gear, and the Wheelhorse has a mower deck that I can detach pretty easily.

Anyway, wife is happy with the Wheelhorse, although I seem to be the one putting all the hours on it!

Yep.. i wouldn't want to pull a 'drag' load with that unit.. a roling load is fine.

My wifes pretty happy with it.. course.. I think a tractor would have been better /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Welcome to the UTV genre, Soundguy. You'll like it too and you'll find all kinds of good benefits to keeping your wife happy. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Next time you want something, she'll be a lot easier to convince. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep.. she's been asking for one all year.. and since I do have multiple tractors.. I figured it was better to get her one asap.. before she found a bigger one$$ to look at.

Did the oil and tranny oil change on it yesterday.. what a task... everything is nestled up in the frame.. you either have to be gumby to get to the fill/drain ports.. or have to remove the dump bed... I chose the 'gumby' route...

Holds a whopping 1.25 qt of crankcase oil, and 7oz of gear oil...

Hey! Where is our pic?? You have to show off your new toy. No excuses now. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I like your Gumby call. Actually in college, somehow my nickname around my fraternity was Gumby. No, I'm not very flexible, and I don't exactly recall how I got that moniker (something at the gym). But I did have a different method of helping my nephew change the oil in some yard cart (don't recall the brand) he bought. He couldn't find the drain plug, so I took out the filler cap and picked the thing up and laid it upside down until all the oil ran out. Then, we just poured back in the same amount that ran out. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif It worked.

Re: Picked up a yerf-dog \'scout\' CUV yesterday

I should be able to get a pic today.

Ran out of daylight yesterday. Got off work early so I could get the CUV serviced.. then had to feed the animals.. go get eggs.. and then get cleaned up and make dinner.. Wife worked late. All timed up perfect..

Yep.. as much as I didn't really want to lay all over the floor to get at the hard to reach plugs.. it was easier than taking the bed off.

Oil plug was a recessed 5/8 bolt.... fill was thru a small spout burried int he center of the engine.. under the pivot of the bed!!! Get this.. it has a washable oil filter/inlet screen... it is under a hex cap with spring and oring... nearly right over a lower frame support.. go figure.

Gear oil was even better. Drain plug was under tranny.. over a frame support.. was a 3/8 cap screw ( hex )...torqued to about 150# $%^% My little 6" wrench was working overtime. Fill was even better... was another 3/8 screw.. ont he sid eof the tranny.. up against the fenderwell. had to use one of those 1 quart bottles with pointy spouts.. AND 6" of rubber tube AND the rubber tube didn't fit the hole. I had to cut the end off a caulking tube.. slide it over the hole.. then cut the tip off to get it inthe hole... Well.. all i can say is that the undercarriage is now well lubed. All the 'relief' cuts for the oil dirains were off by about a half inch.. so drained oil dribbled all over the supports /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Oh well.. that's what paper towels are for!

It's worth it to see the wife scooting around in the pasture with it.
