I had a couple of 'em.....a '72 gasser and a '71 diesel. The 8-speed is a MUCH better tranny over the 6-speed. You'll be happy with it once done.

Might be the angle you are seeing it from.

the engine is together with head and injector lines... looks a lil different than the gasser.

hood center section is off as well as the battery.

I like to start working on them while still on the trailer.. easier to move around them and get under them.. and if i spill oil during servicing.. it's easier to clean up the trailer deck vs my concrete or pasture.

I used mine for hayin' quite a bit back when they were still around here. The additional 2 gears gave a better range of ground speeds when at PTO speed.

Good Afternoon Bill,
I dont own any tractors with an 8 speed but I did help out the farmer down the road last week. I raked about 25 acres with his John Deere 1530 which IMO was a very nice utility tractor with 45 pto hp, and did most everything with that tractor in 5 th gear. I was using a John Deere 898 I think ground driven unit and 5th gear was the ticket. So in my very limited experience, 8 gears are a nice transmission choice IMO !

BTW that tractor has a nice low stance and seemed quite stable on some of the side hills I had to do !

yep.. both rear tires are virtually brand new.

front tires are used but good.. unfortunately.. AND mismatched! one is a multi rib 6x16.. the other is a tri-rib 6.5-16SL ( taller )... luckilly, I happen TO HAVE GOOD USED TIRES, ON RIMS IN BOTH THOSE SIZES, SAME TIRE STYLE. SO I CAN EITHER SWAP OVER TO THE SL TRI RIBS.. OR THE MULTI-RIBS.. ( oops.. sorry for caps! )
