My old rotary mower had seen it's better days and lasted many years. Finally years of me treating it pretty rough at times had broken a weld on the 3 point assembly and tweaked it somewhat. I attribute most of that to repeatedly backing into an old fence line full of brush. Brush hogs were meant to be pulled, not so much backed into stuff. Also, until I get more covered storage, this unit will have to live outside under a oak tree for a while. I've only had a chance to run the new for about 2 hours, bur I'm happy so far. Compared to my old mower, this one leaves the cut grass evenly spread over the entire width of the cut. My old mower tended to bunch up the cut grass on one side. I will say that my old mower seemed to cut the grass a little cleaner and this one is leaving more of a ragged cut. That surprises me because the blades on the old mower never received any attention. The old mower was happy at 2100 rpms on my Kioti which isn't quite at the 540 PTO mark. I'm going to try and bump the tractor rpms a little and see what that does.

Nice! I did not know they made a galvanized model.

Sweet! I had seen one other bush hog before, that was galvanized, but can't remember who made it now? I don't think it was a Modern Ag brand though, but it could have been. Hope you enjoy that one!

I looked at one too before I ended up getting a Landpride, mainly because I was able to get zero percent financing on the LP by buying it and my backhoe at the same time.

As for welding on it, hopefully you will never need to but it isn't that big a deal. Just make sure there is good airflow around you and prep the area by first grinding down the area to be welded to bare metal (which should be done anyway).

Awesome field mower!

I bought a used Modern Ag galvanized 5' box blade (see avatar). The thing is indestructible! Only thing I've managed to break on it is one ripper: I'd had the rippers set way too low from churning up a garden and then I went at some tree roots- SNAP! I'm definitely convinced that the Modern Ag stuff is tough stuff! Captured lower link attachment points (have them on my box blade) seem almost always to be on the high end, heavy duty implements.

I'm hoping to be able to hook my box blade up to a 55hp tractor (looking to buy a new tractor) and figure that will be a good test. Not the proper size for this size of tractor but I can't quite justify the purchase of another box blade for a while (need to buy a flail mower and pallet forks first).

Again, that's an awesome field mower. I'm not thinking there's a better one out there.

This makes me wonder why every quality deck isn't galvanized! What a good idea!

I have looked at these units and am impressed

May I ask what they go for used and/or new?

This unit has a 65 horse gearbox and the quick attach compatible lower link setup as you can see. I wanted that instead of the pins because I have a tendency to bend pins up. Anyway, this model is called the Super Sunshine model and goes for $2700 locally. There is a similar model that has a smaller gearbox and traditional pins on the bottom links. I believe it has the same deck thickness of 3/16" inch. That model is called the Competitor and goes for around $2,000.
