Perkins powered M-F 231S exhaust noise.

The Perkins runs fine, starts easily and is smooth at working RPM (~1600RPM). But, the exhaust has a rather loud bark to it. It is equipped with the OE vertical pipe/muffler assembly. I'm wondering if there is an exhaust system that is quieter without restricting engine breathing. Of course, I could just wear earplugs or noise cancelling earmuffs but, if there is a way to quiet the exhaust, I'm all ears (Heh-heh). :laughing:

I have a MF240 and even if I could eliminate the exhaust noise altogether, the engine noises (combustion) would still loud enough I would wear hearing protection. Not hearing your tractor run it is hard to say, but I am sure there are exhaust options, I just don't know what they would be....

I have the 3 cylinder Perkins in my Fordson Super Dexta and it has the horizontal exhaust. I put a muffler from an '86 F-150 on it and while it quieted the exhaust noise nicely, I still wear earmuffs when I use the tractor-plenty of diesel noise.
