I'm not a high mile driver... 16 year old truck with 90,000 miles, 22 year old Toyota with 145,000 miles. Adds saying 5 year/100,000 mile warrenty don't impress me.

I had a dodge caravan that racked up 260k miles on odometer before I decided to donate to chairty. engine been replaced twice, and tranny rebuilt once. Not worth it.

I'm not surprised that half of them are Chrysler products.

My 98 Dakota was sold with 210k miles on it with an auto tranny rebuild at 160k being the only non-maintenance item and our 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee was sold with 198k with no major work at all. Both these vehicles are still on the road.

My 03 RAM has just 98K miles since I used a small car when gas was $4/gal but I plan on putting at least 200k on it before selling it. I keep a vehicle long enough after it's paid off to make it pay for itself. :D

2000 Ford Focus 220K miles. Eats tires and shocks and 5 fuel pumps before they got a good design, but other than that a pretty good car.

i usually keep a truck 10 yrs or 150,000 miles. my 2004 Z71 going on 85K now, so i figure i'll be keeping this one for another 3-4 years at least. now, my dad, he will drive the wheels off of one. literally. i'm 30 and in my lifetime i've known him to own 3 trucks. all went over 200,000 miles. his current '00 silverado with the 4.3 V6 has 202,000, doesn't use a drop of oil, never had the engine rebuilt, transmission hasn't been touched. he isn't even talking about getting a new one anytime soon. i just don't have that kind of luck with vehicles.

My unscientific "break-even" point is when I've spent more money on fuel and oil/filter changes than the cost of the new vehicle. I've easily exceeded that on my '96 Dodge Ram 3/4 ton Cummins Diesel and over 370k miles. I bought a Honda Accord from my neighbor with over 325k miles and drove it long enough to put another 25k miles on it before giving it to my daughter and her husband for a daily commuter. It would still be going if my grandson hadn't rear-ended a lady while texting on his cellphone. AARGH! He's lucky to be alive and the Honda is now a total loss due to no fault of its own. The good news is he only did $500 damage to the Jeep's trailer hitch and rear bumper.

1994 ford ranger, 248,000, nothin but belts, hoses, oil and filters, radiator, and water pump, traded for new one last summer-hope it lasts half as long.1994 didn't use a drop of oil. was starting to show its age with rust though.
