There is not a place on a ym1700bd to run a PBY return without having to cut it in. The out can go to a Tee installed in the fill hole.

I bet that there is a place. Look on your 3pt spool for a port with an "I" stamped (or, sticking out), and another with an "O" port.
You'll probably need to put a headless plug into the inside of the "O" port to divert flow out to the ports, "activating" them.
You'll flow out the "O", to your new spool. Out the PBY on the spool, back into the "I" on the 3pt spool.
If you look at my threads in the hydraulics section, you'll see where I had very similiar questions. I posted pic's where you can see the "O" labeling the port. One thread is labeled "which port is what", the other one is called "Priority valve vs Power Beyond".
Lots of other good info here also if you search.

When I put my 120 Koyker loader on my 2000BD, the directions have you connect the return line from the loader valves to a similair place on the 3pt control. Problem was that when you used the loader, the 3pt moved. After trying a few different things I did what everybody else did, and went without the power beyond hookup. I couldn't get in touch with they guy who sets these up for Koyker to ask at the time.
When you mentioned there was something else to install in the control after taking the plug out, my intrest peaked again. It's always kind of made me wonder why they set the install that way.............

I am by no means a hydraulics, nor a Yanmar expert. However, in my recent research, it appears that many of the Yanmars have the ability to plumb extra hydraulics from the 3pt valve spool. It's not a "power beyond" port, but it does allow you to plumb without cutting the hard line.
I suspect that so many recommend cutting the hard line because it's much simpler to do that, than to try to explain look for this, then look for that, then, figure out what size plug you need to put in the inside of this port.
So, yes, I could very easily be wrong.
Here is a good thread, which has some pages from a YM model manual describing how to plumb in hydraulics. It talks about inserting the plug.
