Hello:

We are getting ready to spray some portions of our pasture with a Spectracide Weed Stop Liquid Mix (a 2,4, D mix). We are trying to knock back some dollar weed and other weeds. My wife is wondering how long before we can let the horses back in this pasture (she is worried about the horses eating the treated areas).

Should I rope these areas off? How long?

Would there be a safer/better chemical to treat these areas?

Sincerely,

Ikymojoe

I assume you have read the label and looked up an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for your product.
It's just an opinion, but I wouldn't want my horses on it until it had rained a couple of times and had a chance to wash any residue into the soil.

There is a 2,4,d based spray called Pasture Pro that allows horses to graze with no waiting period. I found it at Tractor Supply. Are the weeds you are trying to control suceptable to 2,4,d? I had to go with another product as it wouldn't kill the sheep sorrel.

Cup,

Yes, our Florida extension agent recommended spraying a 2,4, D based product in the late afternoon. The Spectracide Weed Stop has been very successfully at knocking the dollar weed and other weeds back in our yard. We did not know if there was a horse safe product out there. We will look and compare Pasture Pro since we have a new TSC nearby. Thanks for all replies.

Sincerely,

Ikymojoe
