I'm looking for any good ideas on a harrow that will be mainly for dragging pastures and riding arena. I have a few ideas in mind, but would like to hear if any of you have built anything similiar.

The riding arena may need a different type of finishing than the pasture.

Yeah, you are right about the TR3. Its a great drag, but expensive.

I actually have a decent harrow for arena work, so mainly I'm looking to build something for dragging in the pasture.

I have been using a 4' Fuerst Chain Harrow for about 10 years on my 5 acre horse pasture. Started pulling it behind a garden tractor with a 4' MMM. Now I pull it behind a Kubota B7500, usually while mowing the pasture with a 5' MMM. Works well, however, I now wish I had a 5' wide harrow to match the MMM (I've only found harrows in even foot widths), and a lift mechanism for maneuvering into corners and storage area.

Old scallop rake from a scallop boat works great - usually free - depending on how close you are to the ocean/fishing port.

mine somehow looks alot like an arena vator does an excellent job. the teeth fluff it up and break up the big clumps, the blade behind the teeth levels and flattens and the roller packs it down alittle. the wife loves the way it leaves the footing. jon

I run a row cultivator with a section of spiked drag harrow behind that for my dirt arena. The cultivator was about $100 and the harrow section was free.

When I can, I borrow my neighbor's pulverizer - which is basically a 2 row spike harrow with spiked drums behind that. That does a stellar job of breaking up the dirt clods and gives it a nice, manicured look.

I've thought about building my own, but I'm pretty happy with my system.

I just use a chain harrow for the paddocks, but anything that will break up the piles will work....old bed springs, piece of chain link fence, etc. I've got a TR3 also....Its great for the arena, but WAY to agressive to drag a paddock with.

best drag i ever used was very simple, a 10 foot piece of railroad rail with rebar helded to the ends to hook chains up to. one chain just slightly longer than the other so it feathered things out. used it with a box blade and it was awsome, and free
