Back to the continuing story of the Pasquali rototiller restoration for my tractor. I now have power from the tractor drive to the rototiller but the tines won’t turn. This is maybe not that surprising since the machine had been an ornament in a flower garden for 18 years and I was maybe a tad optimistic expecting it to turn when the original universal bit for the drive was rusted solid, but the actual drive shaft was OK.

Anyhow, as you can see from the attached photos I have got the retaining rod out of the tine assembly but have no idea how to take the actual tone assembly apart? Since the whole thing needs a retaining rod and I can’t see any pins or clips on the sections I’m thinking if I hit the sections with a hammer the could fall apart, but since equally I might just total the whole thing I thought I’d seek advice first😁

If anyone has had any experience dismantling one of these rototiller’s or can point me at a manual ( for which I’ve spent 2 days combing the internet) I would be insanely grateful!

Many thanks in advance D636CFA7-CFFF-4098-A140-9261DF45800B.jpegD636CFA7-CFFF-4098-A140-9261DF45800B.jpeg19A3A5D6-2A8D-493E-8E34-A3533089DCDC.jpeg2CB291A5-E3D2-4AF1-9663-10EAECAFE234.jpeg442522D9-74F0-4A67-8948-7EDB0BD74511.jpegD6BD67A8-A3CD-412A-93E6-A13DF5BB0396.jpeg

Since you pulled the rod out, now you'll need to spend some quality time beating the cr@p out of it.

The shaft where the tines mount to, is usually a tapered fit on the gearbox, with either splines or a keyway. Which can be a pain to come out and often requires a lot of beating, heating, swearing, all the good stuff. :)

Try hammer on the flanges but close to the shaft as possible to reduce the risk of bending the flanges.

Found some pictures online from Pasquali rotovators. At least gives you an idea on what's there.

This is the main shaft of the tiller. Looks like it's straight splines after all. So in your case, it's most likely just stuck together with years of rust.

Another picture without the tines:

Notice how with that one simple word you breezed past what is going to be 30 hours of heating, penetrating oil, pullers and beating with big hammers? Nice job!
:ROFLMAO:

You may want to take apart the gear box and see what you can in there. It may help you access the problem parts or at least give you a better idea what you are dealing with. Or give you another point of attack. If it doesn't help, you can temporarily put it back together if it is an issue.

I know right. 🤣

I've had my fare share of battles too. One including an old Goldoni tiller from a 2 wheel drive tractor. What a pain that was.

That'll come apart no sweat 😄, sorry , couldn't help myself. That is one heavy duty tiller, I don't blame you for trying to get it working.
Seriously tho, the splines don't look too long. I'm thinking heat is going to be your only option, ohh...and a BFH.
