I have seen some parts prices that I have thought were out of line but today I saw the worst yet. I was at the local Massey dealer and a guy came in with a power steering hose that was maybe three feet long with metal fittings at both ends. One end had a metal line about a foot long. I would have thought the price might have been 60 or 70 bucks, but would you believe 210.00. I have read recently of high agco parts and now I believe it!

I won't argue with your point about tractor parts being expensive and often over-priced, but it's not limited to Massey or AGCO products.
We have a JD 455 (23hp diesel) with a 60" deck that I use to cut grass around here and when parts are required for it they seem to be higher than for the MF.
I guess I'd rather have to pay high prices and have the part available than have cheap prices overall but find the parts I need aren't in production.

Own a boat? Or an airplane? Parts are never in stock. And............ they are always super expensive.

I'm just glad my dealer stocks what I need.

You can get hydraulic hoses made to order a lot cheaper at a good auto parts store like NAPA, at your local full-service truck stop, or at a local truck repair shop. There are at least three places within 5 miles of my location that will do this type of work pretty cheap compared to buying out of a dealer's inventory.

I own a Deere, a Ford (New Holland) and a Massey (AGCO). I'm convinced AGCO parts are the LEAST expensive between those three. Deere is expensive. No doubt. But they'll almost always have parts for COMMON tractors with-in a day or 2. New Holland is outrageous on some parts. And some VERY common parts for some very common tractors seem to be hard to get at times. AGCO parts generally arrive with-in 2 or 3 days if they're not on the shelf. Again, that's on common parts for popular tractor models. They are expensive by standards of the "old days", but compared to everyone else, not so far out of line.

Bottom line, EVERYONE charges too much for parts these days IMHO.

Hydraulic hoses that are brand/model specific are costly. Some parts are interchangable from model to model. Hoses are usually limited to one model, maybe even sub-groups with-in that single model. That lack of commonality, plus limited sales leads to high prices. (Order a wiring harness if you want a shocker!)

A $200 part for a $20,000 tractor isn't so hard to believe in this day and age.

Parts prices are directly related to which side of the counter you are standing on.

I'm glad that my first stop was NAPA when I blew a power steering line on my Massey. $40 and 40 minutes later, I was on my way!!

I had a post earlier about how I needed to replace the rod ends for my FEL joystick. I called the local dealer and nearly had to be admitted to the hospital. They wanted $89 apiece!!!
I looked around on the net and found a company that sold the samething for for around $2 each. Guess what I did??

Hello all,
I had my own shop for a few years, I am a diesel mechanic. I went to work for someone else about a year ago. Prices of parts can be so different because of different price charts. At work we have several different price charts, some are for regular customers and some are for the "fly by nighters". Sometimes if you open a charge account at the place where you like to do business with you will get a better price. But like said in another post, some parts are available that you don't have to get through a overpriced dealer. If your in a bind and need it, then I guess your stuck going to the dealer, but if you have some time before you need a certain part, explore your options.
