I've decided to get some pallets to use for storing some of the implements in my version of the "man cave". The barn has a concrete floor, but I'm wondering about steel or rubber or poly wheels. My Most of the attachments will not weigh over 500 pounds, but I may have one or two that will end up heavier than that. While I've got pallet forks, I'd really like to put dolly wheels on the pallets so I can just push the pallets and implements around when I need to clean or change the storage arrangement. I also know that larger wheels will roll more easily, but looking for input on what size to use.

My questions for those of you who have already done this: What specifc brand of dolly wheels did you use, where did you get them, what was the approximate cost, and what would you use the next time you do this?

I'm really only wanting to build these once, and have found that it's less expensive to buy better quality one time and avoid the frustration of having to do something twice.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

I did the same thing, I believe the wheels I used were 4". I like the ability to roll the implement around and it helps (for me at least) with getting it on the tractor. I don't have a large barn or shop to store the stuff, so being able to roll things around to get at something really is a plus for me

I have done this many times from a rolling trash can to rolling workbenches and even a 1,000 lb rototiller. Works surprisingly well.
The best wheels are probably mail order from Surplus Center or maybe local from TSC. SC is cheaper and easier.
The low dollar way that we used on some things were Harbor Freight 5" wheels on sale.
They use needle bearings so remove the bolt and add some grease before installation.

I thought these were a lot more expensive, so I may want to reconsider. Looks like it could be less expensive than the caster wheels I've seen, given the number of pallets I think I'm going to need. Thanks for the suggestion!

I second the pallet jack suggestion. I've put a couple of custom built "pallets" on wheels and while it does make them easier to move, they are no where as easy to move as real pallets with a pallet jack. Having a handle to control the pallet makes a day and night difference.

as long as the concreat is smoothish the pallet trucks are the way forward:thumbsup:

thats what i use and they are so easy i drop off and hook up equipment in the door way when the tractor is covered in mud then i don't have to sweep the floor when the mud falls of inside
