Painting hay feeder?

Just finished hay feeder for a horse and now I am wondering what paint to use to paint it.

I have a can of TSC Kubota Orange with just enoough paint left - but is it good to use for a feeder?

Maybe I am overcautious - opinion anybody?

Actually, after i posted I checked the can it says non toxic, so i think i am safe.

I wouldn't paint it at all. Horses love to chew on wood, and non-toxic or not, I'm sure it wouldn't be good for them.
