The recent post on sand blasting has made me decide to wire brush and prime my old snow plow blade with rust converter, but I need some advice on what kind of paint to slap on there. Is implement paint the way to go or is there something more widely available that will work? Just looking for someting fairly durable that will provide a bit of slide along with the Pam I plan on sraying over it. Mark

When I sold snow plows, there was only Western, Meyers, Fischer, & Mid Equipment that sold small plows.... for the large ones, there was Valk and that was about it for the popular makes. I don't doubt that there were some small regional brands, but I was not familiar with them.... back then you could have a snow plow any color you wanted as long as it was school bus yellow...... also known as Shell Oil yellow..... Times change, but this old man doesn't keep up with the new ones that are made...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

it's hard to beat an automotive enamil for your snow plow. they harden up really nice, and have a nice gloss to help the snow slide off of....

i'm with junkman.... a yellow fisher is where it's at... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifkinda like the '71 fisher that's on my father's '77 bronco...

The only short coming of the Fischer snow plows is the bottom trip plate. If you allow the cutting edge to wear out completely, the springs will pop out and you have a lot of welding to do to repair it. It is so common a problem that they now make a repair kit with all the parts to do the job. Buy a new bolt on cutting edge before you need the more expensive repair... Maintenance saves money.... neglect cost much more....

Nothing really works better than POR-15, it comes in several colors. It's expensive but wears like steel. I used it on the backhoe I've made and after 3 years it still hasn't worn off the bucket.

Mark take a scraping of the paint from your snow plow to most any Home Depot. They can computer match your paint in HD enamel to match your existing color. And the price is right.

I did the same thing when I repainted my Woods snow blower, which is burnt orange. They also have the correct primer. Touch ups are easy with a brush from the left over paint.

Amazing! Where do you find POR-15?
