Mahindra 2540
I purchased a Mahindra 2540 two years ago and I'm very happy but I can never seem to find any info one these certain models. I'm looking for anyone who owns one and any feedback they have. I have 120 hours on mine and i do all the maintenance, but it is a learn on the fly with most things but it is fun. I'm looking for some other 2540 owners out their to see or hear their experiences

I wanted a 2540 years ago, but at the time couldnt afford one. Moving forward 10 or so years I just got a 4540 which is an updated 2540. I'm in love! My wife loves it and operates it. People I show love it and want one too. I now have 22 hrs on mine. It is a beast. I'm building up to my 50 hr service. I haven't had to service anything yet. I've done some touch up paint here and there in it. Just something QC didn't catch for some reason. That's my experience. I'm only a few months in on my machine.

I almost purchased the 4540 from a different dealer a very nice tractor. A utility tractor, I think the 2540 is a compact utility, not sure the difference probable just size. They are very similar in hp and pto hp. Glad to hear you love the tractor, my father loves mine I tried to get him to get the 2538 from the same dealer I purchased mine they were having a great deal on them. I only have 120 hours on mine and I did all the service work on mine. I changed the engine oil at 50 just because I wanted to I figured it would not hurt. The dealer recommended waiting till almost 100 hours to do everything else, even the oil but I didn't want to wait. A friend I talk with on Hearth.com has a 4540 with about 500 hours on it and he loves it a beast of a machine.

Nice I figured I would see you on here as well swampy6 (thewoodlands), It seems like there are 4540 owners, but not many 2540's. Maybe its just my assumption but I don't know of many out there.

I've heard of one other 4540 owner in my neck of the woods, I'm pretty sure the dealer sold the 2540 shuttle we looked at. I did see my brothers 2638 hst, it's a nice looking tractor, he said it walked through 12 inches of heavy wet snow without any problems.

Thats great to hear, I have not ran across a Mahindra owners yet who is not happy with their purchase. Most 2500 series owners I talk with own the 2538 or the 2565. I just figured other than certain buttons and whistles, they are about the same just different hp and PTO hp, but I could be wrong. I'm bound to come across another 2540 owner on this site.

I have a 2540 that took delivery of July 1st 2016. Currently it has ~450 hrs on it. It has been a pretty good tractor but I have had a few problems.

The first problem happened in August of 2016, CEL with a P1801 code. Dealer came to the farm and cleared the code under warranty.

Both rear fender extensions/taillight assemblies have broke due to vibration, (not covered under warranty). fixed with epoxy by me.

Fender flare has a crack in it, (I could have hit it on something but just don't see how I could have). I have not fixed it.

Bent one of the 3pt lower link arms, (my fault due to pushing with a box blade and catching the corner). I fixed it myself with a BFH.

Blew the power steering hydraulic hose, (hose was ran poorly with a couple of rub points without any rub protection). Had to deliver to the dealer to be fixed under warranty. Rub protection was redone by me at the farm.

All and all the tractor has been pretty good and think it does a good job with most of the task I use it for. It is by no means the perfect tractor, but I don't think the perfect tractor will ever be made.

As my needs have somewhat changed since 2016, I did buy a Massey Ferguson 4707 this year and am currently looking at a larger cut/small utility tractor to replace the 2540. Either one should be a little more versatile for what I have going on right now. With all the little issues I have had, the shift leavers being stiff and difficult for my farm hand (wife) to shift, the overall fit and finish, and not covering know issues (fender extensions/taillight assemblies) under warranty I will probably/am looking at other brands to fill my future needs.

sorry to hear about some of those issues. At least it is some feedback I'm not a big fan of the plastic fender extensions either they do not seem very tough or a good idea. I do agree I don't think there is a perfect tractor today's equipment has to much electronic pieces on them, but that is the world we live in today.

Same issues here about the tail lights and ck engine light... It has 389 hours works like a mule and still going strong. Ck engine light still on and it hasn't had an issue with it..
