I'm hoping some of you guys can help me out with this. A friend of the family was having a hard time paying her mortgage a while back, so what she did was, she rented out her house, had a neighbor install electric, insulation, drywall, and an electric heater in her 12x16 shed- and she lived in that for about a year until finally giving up and selling her house. Well, she gave us this "shed" since we live right up the street, and it was easy (cheap) to have moved.

We live in MA and I own land in NH. Since this shed would make a perfect turn key hunting camp, we would like to move it to my vacant land in the NH woods. The total distance is 120 miles with about 40 miles of that non highway.

Is it possible for me to get state permits to tow this myself with my f-350 diesel and trailer? If so, how would I obtain permits and roughly what would they cost?

Any idea how much it would cost me to hire someone to haul this?

Lastly, would I be better off leaving it where it is and. Holding a new, equivalent size hunting camp in the woods?

Move it to your property "right up the street," then buy an 8x20 shipping container for a hunting camp. Outfit the container at home, then move it without having to bother with moving permits or squirrels eating holes in it. :)

I am sure MA State Police and NH State Police could help you with the permit issues. Give them a call!

State lines will be a issue. I move a 13' wide boat 60 miles twice a year in Indiana. It weighs about 24,000# on the trailer without fuel. With fuel its just at 25,000#. I use my 06 F-350 diesel and obtain a permit from the state of Indiana very easily. It cost right at $50. I run with sings, chase vehicles, and corner markers on the boat.

I have a feeling its not going to be that easy in your part of the world. Seems like everything is more expensive and toughing in the North East.

Start by making some calls.

Will you need a crane? Is the building up to being moved? How tall is it? The boat I tow is 14' 2" tall and that poses some issues. 13' 6" on the trailer is about all you can do any distance like that. My guess is the trucker to move it properly would be around $5 per mile plus a load and unload fee.

How about a flatbed tow truck, that is how they brought me a 12'X24' shed.

Most companies that sell sheds either own or contract the deliveries. Check with one of them about moving ot on a trailer. The liability then is theirs and they do it every day. Save lot of headache and keep America working!!

That's the easiest, safest, most trouble-free way to get this shed moved. If you ever checked out the specialized trailers these guys use to move these sheds, you won't want to dick around trying to move it yourself. They will know the laws and what permits need to be had, and how best to get them. It's not like guys in the shed/gazebo business are overbooked right now.

I had a 10 x 12 shed moved 88 mi in state and got the same quote from 2 shed moving companies $400. Good luck.

That's a really good idea! I'll check with a shed company and see what they would charge.

They brought it up the street on a ramp truck, which worked great for loading and unloading but it would have been too tall to take on the road, and fit under bridges.
I know I have seen some large sheds being moved on the highway by the shed companies and they're specialized tilt trailers, that really would be the way to go. If I could do it for under a grand I think it would be worth it. I could just grade out an area, put down some plastic, some crushed stone over that, and put the shed up on blocks a foot off the ground or so and I'd have my very own hunting camp!

We had a 12x54 barn delivered to our house in New Hampshire. It came from the Amish in PA, and the shipper loaded it onto a special trailer, and the delivered it right to our property. The Delivery was actually very reasonable, and it was a massive shed row to move on a semi, but the local shied place here would contract a shed to be moved for us, as we looked into buying one used that we would have needed transported before we bought what we have now.
