What overload springs are people using on these trucks. Just got an 05 1500 chevy. Would like to keep the stock ride if possible, kind of leaning towards the air bags, but they are expensive!
I don't know how much helper you want but this past summer I helped a friend install a set of Monroe Sensa-trac Load Adjusting shocks which add a coil over spring and maintain ride height with up to 1200lbs of payload.
His truck was squatting too much with his boat on the back and he didn't want a WD hitch. The shocks certainly made a difference. He went from 6" of squatting to about 2". http://catalog.monroe.com/catalog/e...tedModelId=171341&selectedEngineBaseId=49582#
We use them in an application that was designed for airbags. I got tired of changing popped air bags, and haven't had to service them ( the rubber springs ) since.
We cycle them to maximum compression 1000 times in a day, and that has been for four years so far. Not one issue with them.
tcartwri thanks for posting that link, I have never seen those. I have used the old coil spring type, add a leafs and air bags in the past and was dreading air bags. I am going to try those.
I have an 08 Silverado K1500. There are fewer rear leaf springs than there were years ago on older 1500's and I noticed the rear end dropping more than I'd like when loading my trailer. I thought of air bags / shocks which will do the job but I ended up going to the local spring shop and having them add a leaf to each rear spring pack. It worked out great for me.
I have installed the very coil over shocks Dmace speaks of on a Ram 1500. They work good for the money. I have also installed air bags on customers F150 and on a Titan. They worked great and were under $200.
I have had air bags on three trucks now, and find them to be the best option. They have all been "no drill" and take about 2 hours to put in. Best of all they do not affect the ride when not inflated past 10 psi.
