NH 1725
We have an overheating 1725 tractor with only 1700 hours. The radiator is leak and plug free, the thermostat is fine, and the pump seems to be fine (although I haven't pulled off the engine).
Could it be an issue with the drain petcock? Is there some other point in the system prone to blockage?

thanks

Mike

Have you taken a airhose and blown out the radiator fins ? be careful to not damage them , back when we were making hay it was a twice a day job or more to blow the rad clean.

^this and do not run water through them if your in dusty areas.. down here washing out radiators with water will make a nice concrete of dirt inside of them. also when is the last time your flushed your radiator

actually, yes, we pulled the radiator and had a shop run a pressure check and do a thorough cleaning. the problem remains and is sort of a mystery.
thanks

Can you notice a change in the tractor when its overheating or is the gage just sending a signal saying it is? I have had to replace the sensor on a NH that was showing the tractor was overheating. Ended up just being an electronic issue. If its not that then very well could be the water pump

Check the temperature with a thermometer. If it's still high then make sure that:

The rad cap is the correct pressure and is working correctly.
The drive belt is tight.
The lower rad hose is no collapsing when you rev the tractor
The air side of the radiator is not clogged.
To check the pump, remove the rad cap and run the engine till it heats up and you should see coolant coming into the top of the radiator when the thermostat opens. If you do the pump is working. To check the thermostat, get a thermometer and put the thermostat in a pan of water and heat it until the thermostat starts to open measure the water temperature and it should match the rating of the thermostat

Thanks Jerry--All good advice and we will implement, step by step. (The hose is old and I suspect collapsing is a possibility.)
