We picked up a new 'bare bones' MX5800 this weekend for a pasture mowing tractor. I have seen a lot of MX's on here but most had loaders and other options so I thought I'd post this one. I bought it with zero options. I found a used weight bracket on ebay and added some aftermarket weights from a local source.
I did find out after about the first 45 seconds of mowing that a canopy was going to happen so I have one ordered one from covermytractor.com.
I spent the first 4 hours mowing a pasture that was massively overgrown. The grass (mostly weeds) were 2' to 3' tall and very thick. The 5800 didn't even know the 7' RCR1884 shredder was back there! PLENTY of power and the tractor felt super stable. I was worried about the mower being too heavy but I never felt at all like the front was light or the mower was too big. Not sure what it would do without the bumper weights in the front though.
I was disappointed in the seat at first. The ride was very rough. I actually had a Grammer air seat in my shopping cart but I decided to experiment with tire pressure first (ok... the look my wife gave me when she saw the cost of the seat prompted me to look for alternative solutions
). So... since I don't have a loader or backhoe or other heavy implements and my ground is flat, I lowered the front tires to 5lb and the rear to 10lbs and the tractor drives like a dream! Amazing improvement.
I also added a Titan Cat2 Quick hitch and it was the best money I have spent in a long time. It bolted right up and I can hook up/unhook implements in seconds without even leaving the seat (well except for the mower's PTO shaft).
Next up - PAINT THE MOWER! I already have a quart of Kubota paint on the bench ready to go. Anyone know where I can order the Land Pride decals? Maybe my Kubota dealer can get them?
