I had to get up to check the rain gage and radar loops. It has been non-stop lightning/thunder since dark here in NE Oklahoma, and it is hard to sleep not having heard this in a while.

Although my location has received only 1.5 inches in the last few hours, it makes a total of 5 inches in the last two weeks, with it still raining and more to come maybe tomorrow. Most of the area has received between 2 and 4 inches tonight thus far, and between 5 and 8 inches in the last two weeks. Almost all ponds will be full, and the soil saturated in our local bottomlands that will get the pecans through to harvest.

60 miles south is still in bad shape, maybe they will get some in the next 24 hours. No help so far for north Texas (earlier thread), but maybe tomorrow. This summer has been a reminder as to why I moved from north-central Texas back to northeast Oklahoma. Fewer people, greener, occasional breaks from the summer heat (and land prices).

Best of luck (rain) to the rest of you.

Scott, the same for NE Kansas, supposed to rain for the next several days.

Thanks. We can hope, at least. The sun's shining now, but the forecast is a 40% chance today and 80% chance tonight.

Scott I'm glad you're getting some relief from the drought, I'll keep my fingers crossed for Texas.

We got a good soaking here late last night in Ohio and as I sit here at 9 AM it's still raining. Guess I'll need to mow the grass tomorrow.

We still need more rain here. The burn ban wasn't lifted even though we got a fair amount of rain. The lake (Skiatook Lake) is about 8 feet or more down. The grass fires before the rain were getting out of hand here. 2500 acres burned by the lake the other day. I had 35+ acres burn next door to me just less then 2 weeks ago. My neighbors home caught fire and burned down. In the 1st and 2nd pic in the link below is all that is left of my neighbors home.

Grass Fire

The only thing that saved the fire from my property was the service road in pic 4. I'm still a bit upset over it. Recovery from hernia surgery I was not able to be much help for my neighbor. The grass fire got to his chicken pin. I had the wife run over and open the gate to the pin but by that time a few had already died from the fire. It was a small pin and shed and they had no where to run.

Wow! That's too close for any comfort whatsoever. What a time to be recovering from hernia surgery. I'm glad you didn't have losses. I hope your neighbor was well insured.

He won't even be turning it in on his home owners. Fire marshal knew what caused the grass fire right off and it's stated that way on the report. The local power company is at fault for the fire. This is the 3rd time that power pole has caused a grass fire this year. The power company has already admitted fault and is taking good care of my neighbor.

Lots of rain now in the Shenandoah Valley... calling for 5" - 7" but it is too late for the corn crop. Wind is blowing strongly and temp never got above 57 degrees today.
