o\'ring or gasket found entering filter

Here's the deal. I was changing my hydraulic filter on the L3710 this afternooon. When I removed the filter that was on the tractor I found a piece of rubber (not the filter gasket) trying to enter the filter. It's about 6 inches long x about 3/16" wide. It looks like it was either an o'ring or gasket from inside the hydraulic system somewhere to me. I haven't noticed any malfunction and I assume it had been there for quite some time. I'll be taking it in to the dealer sometime this week along with the filter to get a second opinion. Any ideas?

After some more thought...it could be from the previous filter I suppose. Not the one I took off, it still had its gasket, but the filter it replaced could have left its gasket on the tractor.
At least thats what I'm hoping.

I wouldn't use your tractor until you ID'd that gasket and verified that one is in place. Who knows what damage a missing gasket would be. Call your dealer, maybe even take in the gasket you found into him and let him ID it. Good luck and let us know what you found out.

From the size you stated I would guess it's a gasket from an old filter. If you're not seeing any leaks and haven't noticed strange happenings I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Go ahead and take it to the dealer and let them look at it, but don't let them keep it. In a worse case scenario you might need it later.

It would be good to figure out where it came from if at all possible. I know that would be one of the first things I'd do!

Upon closer inspection of the "gasket" it looks to be just some flashing from around a sealed area. Probably black RTV or whatever they use as a liquid gasket material. This was the opinion of coworkers and the mechanic at the dealer ship agreed. Nothing to be concerned about.
