I see a DR Chipper/Shredder as an option but it's $3,000 for the chipper/shredder combo or $1,889 for the chipper only option. Mounts on the 3 Pt Hitch. Looks to be high quality.

Any other nice quality options out there for a chipper/shredder combo?

Thanks

How heavy duty are you planning to go on this?

Valby makes some excellent chippers (6" capacity). These are commercial duty units, and are available with optional hydraulic power feed. I've used my neighbors quite a bit, and really like it. I don't know if they have shredder models or not... don't have much use for a shredder myself, so I've never looked into it.

I just checked them out. It looks rather lightweight in the picture, but no less so than anything else in it's price range. It all depends on what you want it for.

I've been looking at chippers myself for several years; but as much as I'd use it I really need a commercial grade unit. Instead I pile slash and brush all year, then burn it in the spring. I use about the same amount of diesel, for fire starting instead of running my tractor; but save the price of a chipper.

I just bought a Jinma 6" chipper from Homier about a week ago:

Homier Farm Pro Chipper

They private label it under their own Farm Pro brand but it's the same as a Jinma. It's a decent quality unit, given the price. It has some shortcomings, most notably the driveshaft mechanisim for the feed roller, which are easy to fix if you are at all mechanically inclined. There are several websites covering how to service the unit and do retrofits to handle the problem with the feed roller.

At $1599 (plus $130 shipping) it is a steal in my opinion. I have about 6 or 8 hours of chipping time on it so far, behind my Kubota B2910. The B2910 has adequate power for up to a 4" log when running at PTO speed - anything over that and I have to feather the feed or otherwise I'll stall the tractor.

And although they call it a chipper/shredder it's really only a chipper. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you only need to use one once in a while, Home Depot has a nice unit they rent out. It is less then $200 for a whole day (I think it was around $160 but don't remember). The Home Depot here has a Vermeer unit with its own power source and it throws the chips away from the unit to help spread them if you are just mulching them where you cut.

Looking for something to chip maybe 4-5 inch wood and also a shredder. I've found more sites on the web and have a few catalogs coming to check out. We'd like to have one to keep, not rent. These things are expensive...I know that!
