Opinions please on the Deere 2440

Could you fellas with experience please provide your opinion on the 2440 for brush hog work on five acres ?

One for sale with a model 145 loader that has under 3000 hours on it for $7500.

Thoughts please.

Been looking at those 40 series tractors for a couple of years, now. The 2440 has 60hp at the pto so it would brush hog those 5 acres by lunch-time...

3000 hours is a very low hour machine for those utility tractors and at $7,500 it's a "rock-bottom" price, too!

On the face of it - sounds like something to really look close at - I'd be there in a NEW YORK minute - if I lived close by!!

I've read that those tractors can have a glitch or two with the transmissions. Something about the the shifting forks can hang. Don't think it was a prevalent or widespread issue, though. 3 types - collar shift, synchro and snychro with Hi/lo.

Engine is rock solid.

I'm with AKfish on this, good tractor very capable. Have considered buying the 2640 if I could find a creampuff.

No, I did not. I also did make inquiries on an International 340 that was for sale for $4000.

Then a fella on another forum mentioned that I was overkilling what I wanted to accomplish..... That the big farm tractors could become a major moneypit if all I was looking to do was mow 5 acres.

Made me think and slow down.

My family owns a 2420 with the 145 FEL. We bought it about 20-25 years ago. It has been an AWESOME trouble free tractor. We have a 100acre hobby farm with beef cows and use the tractor often for everything. If its on good overall shape, i would not think twice about buying another. We also have a 3020... another great tractor.
