I have a Husqvarna 2354GXLS with the K66 transaxle. At the start of the mowing season the tractor would squeal or whine just when I pushed the reverse pedal ... but the machine still seemed to work OK.

Today I noted the machine would barely make it up the shallow slopes I have in the lawn without slowing down a great deal. No noise or smell from the drive belt and I wonder if this is an indication the transaxle is about worn out with only 200 hours on the machine ? Any thoughts ?

Is the transmission oil level okay ?
Have you ever changed the transmission oil ?

Another possibility is that the pressure relief valve has loosened and is opening instead of sending more pressure to the hydraulic motor. That would explain the whine and loss of power.

Hey ... thanks again. It would be great if it's something that simple.

A quick follow-up with good news & bad news.

I jacked the machine off the ground and while pretending to know what I'm doing ... and studying the components I noted while turning the rear tires the transaxle was moving at the front 3/8 to 1/2 inch. After more studying I realized there was a heavy bracket above the tranny and wear spots that indicated the tranny was out of position.
I got out the schematics and it showed two 3/8-16 X 1" bolts should be holding the trans to the bracket. The transaxle front would move up and down changing the angle of the rear pulley and probably creating the squealing.
The bolts were totally missing and it defied logic that they could have loosened and bounced out.
I decided if I replaced the bolts into the threaded holes it would be a pain to periodically check them so I substituted 5/16 x 2" long bolts through the bracket and tranny with a lock washer and nut.
It solved the problem..... BUT I also noted that the deflection caused the fan to lift and about half the blades are gone.
Replacement of that $40. item will be a major pain because it appears the Husqvarna machines are built from the top down..... meaning no short cuts ... the whole machine will have to come apart to fix.

Fwiw- On mowers with their battery under seat the fan is easy to inspect & change by removing battery. l wish they all were like this.
With no battery under seat I simply remove wheel to access.
If more access is needed I remove body bolts, any knobs/pedals if needed & place my floor jack at rear of mower with a 2x4 between floor jack & under the rear of the body. Now very slowly jack body up only as far as I need it to reach the fan or fuel tank to repair them. Ive done this numerous times without issues. So far Ive not had to "remove" an entire body or a dash in over 20yrs repairing mowers/tractors. Hope this helps..
