Opinions on gas hedge trimmers

I'm in the process of purchasing a 2 stroke hedge trimmer. I would appreciated members' views/opinions of the Echo HC150, the Stihl HS-45, and the Husqvarna 326HD60x. While the trimmer will be primarily used in a residential setting, I appreciate good quality products that will last.

All three are high quality products. If you're buying from a dealer, I'd look at which one has the best service/parts department. The Husky is the heaviest of the 3 - which may make it a bit more difficult to handle for long periods of time. I own products from all three manufacturers - go with the best deal + best dealer.

We have the 326HD75x (or something like that as their model numbers are crazy to remember) I think it is one step up from the one you are looking at. Power wise it has plenty of power to run the 30" bar but if you are working on tall hedges then it gets heavy. I use mine to trim the grapes as we didn't have much time this year after signing the papers and I was working by myself so I couldn't stand on a trailer and be pulled along. After one 200 yard row of grapes I was done with that for a while. But that is trimming both sides and the bottom.

For small hedges or if you only have a few bushes you want to trim up then the weight isn't a big deal. But if you have a maze you want to keep trimmed then get the lightest, heavy duty model you can find.

The reason I bought a Husqvarna is because I have a great dealer. I bought the hedge trimmer and a pole saw at the same time and he gave me a great price and is local. The dealer I use is The Power Shop in Fredonia, NY.

RedMax CHTZ2400. Beautiful machine. Has rotating handle (great for switching from horizontal to vertical cutting), double-sided blade, commercial-duty, powerful, very fuel-efficient. I've had it for a couple of years. Can't say enough good about it.
