I've been checking the local market for a good used commercial ZTR. I came across a 48"/19hp Kawasaki CC Tank. I have yet to make contact with the guy selling it so I don't know all the details. It looks clean in the picture and he said it was used to mow at a church. From most of what I've read, people are pretty happy with thier Tanks. I did come across some complaints about the 48" decks clogging and not spitting the clippings well. I also understand that these were made by Lesco and that Lesco was bought out and now parts are getting harder to come by.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

If they were made by Lesco, that's news to me, but I'm not overly familar with the Cub commercial stuff, especially the older. What will the intended use of this machine be? I've never heard a residential user complain about a Tank, but have read of commercial user complaints that they ride rough compared to others. Regardless, for the right price I'm sure it would awesome.

Well I'm not too sure now the more I read around. Looks like they had a joint effort with Lesco. Maybe the talk about parts was meant towards Lesco owners/dealers since they were bought out. I don't really care who made it but would want to be able to get parts if needed. It would be for residential use... mowing 3 acres of flat ground. He wants $2900, which sounds good to me, assuming it doesn't have a ton of hours on it.

Thanks.

That's not bad. That was probably a $5K machine new.

That does sound like a good deal.
I used to have an M-72 Tank and loved it. Never should have sold it....

Well I just now got in touch with the guy. He had been out of town and before I talked with him, he had a potential buyer. Bottom line is that it is still for sale. $2900 and that includes a trailer. The trailer is cheap.. maybe a 5x8 with 12" tires. I already have one so I could sell that one. I went and looked at it this evening. It's pretty clean... runs and drives good. Seems to cut pretty good also but it was essentially dark when I was mowing with it. A little weathered but considering its probably about 8 years old it is in pretty good shape. It has 398 hours on it. There is one issue I'm not sure about and would like some input on. The left side steering arm doesn't have any tension. It can just flop from forward to reverse. Anybody know what would cause that? Some type of dampener or something?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what type of drive system is on a Tank of this vintage. It's probably separate pump and wheel motor drives, but on my Hydrogear ZT2800's I believe there is a spring that returns you to neutral position and a hydraulic tensioner for each lap bar (for sure). Sounds like a spring might be missing. A flopping lap bar is not normal. Pricing has so many variables it's ridiculous, but to me, if it's 8yrs old- even with the hours $2900 is too high. I'd think more like $2500 tops.

Honestly, I wouldn't consider any more than $1500 for that unit. I have several friends who bought them and, um, how can I put this; they were not exactly the best machine. CC sold a lot of these units based solely on the name "Tank".
