I have read that this isn't the most secure safe which I under stand but I have read that a average person could easily pry into the safe. I have been wanting a gun safe for a while to keep the average thief from just walking out with our 10+ rifles/guns. I would also keep some cash in it along with important papers and other somewhat valuables which is all pretty easily to walk out with right now once in the home. Tractor supply has this Cannon TS7240 Tall/Wide Body Gun Safe that is normally $1299 but is going on sale for $999 in a week. Anyone know if this safe would suit my needs for the price and if it is really that easy to break into? I know that there is a lot more secure safes and a lot more money for them but I figuer that this would still be decent protection that would take some effort to get into. THANKs!!!

Cannon makes a pretty good safe for what you need. I have a Heritage and it is nice for what I use it for. I bought my Heritage just beacuse it has a nicer finsih so it looks nice and being that big it is like a piece of furniture so we bought off white and gold trim. Very good looking and very secure. These are big and heavy 1000lbs+ and I didn't have anywhere esle to put it so it is in the bedroom. Wife didn't want just a black safe so I spent the extra money and got a fashion statement. It has a sergent green leaf lock and I hear they are the best? The cannon at TSC doesn't state what brand their lock is?

I have a fireproof/waterproof stackon. It was at dicks sporting goods, got it with a sale and its impressive. I would say buy bigger then you need because you will fill it up.

I forgot to say if its going to be in a basement...1. get a waterproof one, since you dont want them to rust out after a fire, or hose breaking.
2. anchor it so it will not float, it may tip and let water in.
most waterproof ones are waterproof to about 3' and if you dont achor it you void the warrenty.

I will be putting the safe in my bedroom. It says it weights 700lbs and after I put stuff in it it will weight about 1000lbs. Hopefully it won't fall through the floor of the doublewide. I looked at the safe again this morning and it does look like it would be easy to pry open but maybe it is stronger than it looks around where the lockingbolts hold around the lip. For $999 and 72"x40"x24" in size it will be hard to pass up. If it is going to weight close to 1k lbs do you think I really need to bolt it to the floor? I would think they could pry it open quicker than they would get it out of the house! THANKS!!!

That sure is a lot of weight on a floor. Don't know if you were serious or kidding about the doublewide. Also don't know if doublewides have the same floor designs as conventional homes... and don't know if they are better or worse if they are different.

I would be concerned...

When it comes to safes, most of the times you really do get what you pay for. The Cannon will keep most "break and grab" druggies out. However, if you have a house fire, don't expect anything to "survive". Given time, anyone with the right tools and brains will get into any safe given time. An inexpensive safe should be in a home that has some sort of security system to lessen the time a thief has to work on the safe IMO.

I ain't super worried about the fire rating. The one I am looking at is good for 30min at 1200 degrees. I have two 1.3 cubic ft sentry fire safes that I plan on setting inside the gun safe to help out incase the fire for the important papers and cash.

Now I am concerned about the safes weight of 700lbs. It is a older double wide and ain't real sure about the flooring. I could get the same safe just 60" tall instead of 72" tall that is only 600lbs for the same price. I really would like to have had the tall and wide safe for the extra room. Anyone else have a double wide and a heavy gun safe on the floor of it? Anyone know if the flooring would hold it up? I would think it would but not sure. THANKS!!!
