Hi all,

Below is the link to the machine in question:

2012 Kubota L3800 Loader Backhoe 265 Hours | eBay
Hi all,

I would appreciate opinions on the value of this machine.

And I have the following questions:

1. Isn't the Grill Guard Bent Forward, Significantly?
I contacted owner, and he said it was always that way-but he claims to be the second owner. Yet I've seen pics of L3800's grill guards that follow the exact curve of the tractor's grill, which this clearly does not.

2. Is the Hoe a BH77?

I also question whether this is actually a BH77 hoe? It looks too small to be a BH77, yet I see it IS the curved boom hoe, which the BH75 was not. But perhaps the rest of the tractor and the big FEL are responsible for this "optical illusion? but it just looks too small to me, to be the BH77 (which would be great if it IS the BH77).

3. How Big of an FEL Did the "non-Grand L's Come With, Optionally?
Also, can anyone tell me what the biggest FEL (by model number) is that could be had on these "non-Grand L-series" tractors is?

4. Any Idea of Price of a Non-Hydyaullic Thumb Kit for a BH77 Hoe?

5. There IS No Kubota-authorized Way to "Hydraulify" Their Manual Thumb, Right?
The above is what I've read, as compared to Woods, which has the whole hydraulic thumb shebang thing down, on their BH80-X "Groundbreaker" (an 8' hoe), including remote (if a rear remote is even needed with the Woods--maybe it's internally-plumbed, in the hoe? [I have no idea if that's even possible...]. AND the Wood's setup included the foot pedal for the thumb) for a known price. ($1,600., all in, if I recall correctly?).

6. Dollar-value of This Machine, As It Sits?
All opinions welcome!

7. Concern About Possibly-Bent Grill Guard?
I'm not so concerned about buying a new one (or "heating and beating" the old one, after it's removed, of course). I worry about if the tractor frame could be bent, in the area where the guard mounts. Not being close enough for a pre-purchase inpsection, I welcome all opinions and advice.

Thanks in advance.

The mechanical thumb kit for the BH-77 is $475 list price. Whether mech or hyd, a thumb is almost indispensable if using the hoe very much.

I believe that is a BH-77. The L3800 is near the top of the series before switching over to the 9 ft hoe, so the 7 ft does look a little small on the L3800. Can't quite see what's going on with the grill guard, that's about the position of mine (not an L3800) when its unlatched for opening the hood.

Grill guard looks no different than mine, which isn't bent.

In my opinion the grille guard is normal, and that is a BH77, and the loader is the correct one (la524) for the machine and it is a SSQA bucket also.

The price is at least $1000 too high.. Also as a bargaining point the 50 hour service was not done. The hydraulic filter is original gray color. Should be white. I would assume the hydrostat filter has not been changed either.

It also has the same loader as my L3200 (same tractor as yours, just tuned for a few less HP). I think it's the largest loader you can get on them. At least it's what came with mine new from the dealer.

I'm trying to remember, but some of the loaders don't have SSQA I think. Mine & the Ebay one do. It has R4 tires on it, which are a bit of an upgrade (cost wise at least, debate rages on about the utility of R1 vs R4).

I haven't cared about it recently, but I thought my bucket was 66" wide. You might be able to spec out at 72" at purchase, but I'm somewhat sure the 66" is default. 66" is fine for me doing some dirt work. 72" might be taxing it a bit depending on how you use it, but not to much.

That tractor (R4s, HST, loader) brand new without the hoe was $20k from a dealer up until very recently. Not sure what the hoe is worth & don't think the bigger bucket adds that much value.

As previously mentioned, Kubota puts the oil filter on before painting, so the OEM filter is painted grey. It should be changed at 50 hours & end up not grey. That probably means they are 212 hours past due on their maintenance. You should probably consider they haven't greased it every 10 hours or done any other maintenance to it. Not a huge deal, but I wouldn't pay a premium for a tractor that hasn't been maintained as well as it should.

Besides the 50hr service not done, everything else looks good. This is as loaded as economy L gets.
That tractor, new, today after tax will be roughly $30K.
Call the guy, inspect the tractor, and if it checks show him cash. Its a steal @ $22K or less.

The grill guard isn't bent. The 50 hr service not being done after 265 hours is odd.

You should be addressing equipment questions to the SELLER via eBay, so the SELLER can respond.

Your SELLER has concluded 121 transactions on eBay and has a 100% positive rating. You will likely get accurate responses.

I'd also ask why none of the filters have been changed...
