Operating rear Snowblower on LB1914

In the JRW SB manual it says that a "live PTO is absolutely necessary unless an auxiliary motor is used". Since I have neither I was wondering if some LB1914 owners could give some tips on operating the rear SB with a transmission PTO. Specifically, I'm interested in minimizing the snapping of shear pins when either engaging or disengaging the PTO in conjunction with changing direction and or gears. Is it all a matter of how fast / slow I release the clutch?

Thanks for any tips,

Yes it is, It is just like running a mower, if you have that much of a concern get a slip clutch for your pto shaft /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Haven't used a mower yet. I've only had the tractor for 2 weeks. Guess I'll get the hang of it with the SB so I'll be ready for the mower this spring. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thank you and Happy New Year

I think I would use an over running clutch here. Then your PTO would work like a live PTO. You would engage it using slow RPM's then run it up to 540 RPM on the PTO. As has been posted many times here, it is best to blow snow at the rated 540 RPM's even if the snow is not deep. When you disengage the blower the over running clutch will allow the blower to slow down without putting any strain on the shear pin.
My neighbor ran a large bush hog for many years on the back of a Ford 8N with an over running clutch and did no damage to the PTO.
Here is a link to one on line but you could probably find one locally.

Re: Operating rear Snowblower on LB1914

I have an LK2554 with a transmission pto. I use a JRW rear snow blower with it with no trouble. I just try to start out a slow speed when releasing the clutch and then quickly increase to pto speed. I've use it now for 2.5 seasons without any difficulty. Of course its much easier if you don't need to make a lot of stops and starts or direction changes.
