When I was on my way to work on thursday, the mercedes SUV in front of me hit a young buck. I stopped blocking the lane so that noone else would hit it, and as the cell phone talking mercedes driver got out to see the damage I asked "you want it?". The confounded look on his face answered my question. Another farmer from the area had also stopped and helped me load it into the back of my truck.

While there was some bruised meat, we pulled 25lbs of steaks and ground off the deer, and nearly 15lbs of "not quite what I'd eat" meat for the dog.

The best he didn't notice his rad was leaking all over the place and wanted to continue on to work (60km from there) to have the car repaired on his way back.

That reminds me of a time many years ago.........in oregon.

I was driving back to the coast after a night of carousing in Corvallis and ahead of me coming the other way 3 college girls from corvallis (coming back from a weekend on the coast) hit a nice 3 pt. It flipped the deer which landed on the guardrail on it's back, breaking it's back. We all stopped and got out about that time the poor buck tried dragging itself off with it's front legs. The girls started screaming help it help it so I ran up, grabbed it's horn and cut the poor things throat and u know what happened next. I didn't expect it.....I hear this terrible gurgling noise, then some shreiking and crying and I turned around to see what it was and the girls one getting sick all scrambling for their el camino, jumping in and pealing away! Always seem to have that affect on women.
Didn't have to even ask them if they wanted some:licking:

Not sure about other states but here in GA it is illegal to posess a deer without a tag regardless of the circumstances...the normal procedure on road kills is to contact local law enforcement and they contact the powers that be and salvageable meat is used to feed prisoners or the homeless...

Up here you just call natural resources and they give you a certificate number ... no biggy

As far as the mess is concerned, I worked from home and kept the kids in order while the wife skinned and gutted it =)

The yuppy part was for the suv/cell/suit&tie/not paying attention for wild life in deer season and lastly ... not looking for damage that would kill his car as soon as he hit the 416

Here in Wisc you can have the deer, but it has to be tagged by someone in law enforcement, or DNR first.
