Sorry to keep bothering everyone, and thanks for Randy and everyone for all the help so far.

I need to remove the shaft that the bronze transmission gear is on. I've pulled out both assemblies that have the "O" ring in them, and the "C" clip is not on it (which is why I am taking it apart....)

One side of the shaft has a small concentric hole drilled, and I assume they pressed it in from that side.

I took my press and started pressing it, and it moves a little bit and then stops.

Do I need more pressure to remove that shaft or is there another trick?

Thanks

Wayne

Randy:

Thanks so much for your help on this! Both sahfts come out of the trans easily if you know how to do it... And I certainly did not. The shaft where that bronze gear sets is actually not hard at all, as long as you have a good picture o it and know which way to push it.

Anyway, right now my transmission is down to a bare casting. As soon as my new bushings come in, I'll be good to go.

thanks again. I'm normally over on the green tractor side of this forum and not hear!

I went through the same scenario 2 years ago. Machined all my own parts. Much easier and less expensive......

I had to re-build a "borrowed" horse tiller unit (pto) and it took new bronze gear plus the worm shaft , bearings/seals/shims gaskets/etc,---I think all parts came to around $480 total, PLUS some very sore fingers!!! ---never pressed nothing,---it all drove apart quite easily, putting it back together was nother story!!!----I hope to NEVER have to work on any more of them! thanks; sonny
