My Dad has been bugging me to take out a large dead oak tree in his front yard. Yesterday I dug down about 7-8 feet all the way around it and finally got it pushed over. I went back today to cut up the trunk and get the root ball out of the hole. Once again, I had to dig a slope and roll it out. As you can tell from the photos it was a very large, large oak. Over 30 inches diameter at the ground. I never was able to lift it, but I pushed it to the burning pile.
hugs, Brandi

Morn Brandi.
Right equipment sure makes the job easier...the oak cut and split would bring good money up in these's parts.

Nice job. I'm suprised at the size of the root ball, but with dead trees and hardwoods, anything is possible. Some of them just don't have very many roots.

Did you have any issues with branches falling? The dead trees that I need to take out on my place are too scarry to deal with until a few more branches fall off. Once the tree is dead, those branches can and do come off at the worse possible times. Even dying trees have suicide branches waiting to cause some damage!!!!

Thanks for the pics,
Eddie

if you haven't cut it up yet....do you know anyone with one of those portable band saw mills? might have some good lumber there.

I will cut it up and split it for Dad's wood stove.

Eddie,
The tree had been dead so long, all the branches had fallen. It was just a trunk. I did watch closely the tip top, as it was shaking a lot when I would push on it.
