Found an Oliver 550 for $2500. It seems to be in good shape. I do not know much about these machines, so any input would be appreciated. Are parts easy to get/inexpensive, etc...
The price sounds good. They go any where from $2000 to $6000 depending on the shape. If the tractor is a diesel it will be worth a bit more then the gas model.
Take a look at the value of some other Oliver 550's.
Parts are fairly easy to get. I get the parts for my Case from Steiner Tractor Parts in Lennon Michigan. They have a good selection of parts for Oliver tractors. Take a look through their website and see what they have for parts for the 550.
Oliver made these tractors from 1958 to 1975. If you can get the year or serial # will help.
You can find some specs on the tractor at Tractordata.com
Careful its not one of those Oliver's(gas) that had the "White-Lightning" conversion added on to it.Some of them folks back in the day had trouble trying to turn them off !!!!!!!!!!
(Just kidding) Hoping its a nice tractor and you get a bargain.
If it's in good shape, that's a steal. One of the most under-rated tractors ever as far as I'm concerned. "Old technology" if there is such a thing. Simple (in a good way!) and worth a few bonus points just for being unusual!
I owned a Super 55 Oliver for 20 years, ran great I used a back blade and a 3 point snow blower to do large driveway.I also used a bush hog to do 3 acres od grass. Very dependable tractor mine was gas and the only item I would advise you to check if everything else is ok would be the steering box. Ball bearings run around a case in oil bath, seal failed on mine and I used grease as a substitute.

Strangely, when I borrowed my brother's, people would stop and try to buy it, since some folks in these parts like them. I liked it fine.
Here are some comments too. Yesterday's Tractors - Oliver 550 Purchaser Checklist
Wow, sounds like I might have stumbled onto something with this Oliver. I need to go and see it up close, but from the road it looks to be in decent shape.
I'm not sure if its gas or diesel. Does it matter?
There are not as many diesel versions around compared to gas.
With gas you will get 3.3 gal/hour at max pto power and with diesel you will get 2.8 gal/hour and more pulling power.
You better hurry and put a offer in on it before it gets scooped up.
