Helped my son who helps run a local motocross track.Used their old 1650 Olie row crop and harrow disc to beat it to a pulp.
What a nice machine,I couldn't believe how nice it ran and operated.
Even though I'm now spoiled with a SM trans. and a reverser it was still great fun to drive that beast........Mike

PS This experience helped to erase the memory of the 35HP Oliver Olympus outboard motor that my dad bought in 1960,what a piece of crap that was.

I know what you mean. I have been running an Oliver 1855 lately pulling corn wagons, and it has a under-direct-over in each gear that you can shift on the go. A pretty nice tractor to run. They have that double-H pattern where you go through the woods to the second H pattern on the main transmission.

In my serach for an older affordable tractor. I have heard a lot of real good things about the Olivers. Before this tractor thing bit me, I had never herd of them.

Oliver was one of the industry leaders with many patents and smooth as silk six cylinder engines when Deere was still trying to push there antiqated hand clutch and a two cylinder engine. They had the independent pto and there over under transmission made it easier to find the right gear for the hill farmer. One of the first to have a gear four wheel assist on farm tractors in this country.

Oliver was also a pioneer in the development of the independent PTO and the fleetline series had the easiest startng diesel engine in the industry during the 50's. The small Super 55 and 550 were perfect utility tractors. Many of these tractors are still at work on farms.

One of our neighbors had a Super 55 and I just loved to run that tractor. it had the double-H pattern shift just like the later Olivers had.

I saw a super55 for sale, and have never herd of them before. Looked it up, and it looks like a nice tractor. Almost like a Ford N, or the old Furgies. Too bad it was to far away to look at it.
