Hello, I just bought a OMC mustang 440, he said he thought it was early 80 or late 70's, im not sure, it has a Wisconsin v 4 VG4D
I am not a equipment operator at all, although I have used a back hoe and track hoe a couple times, this is nothing like a backhoe
I would like to know more about it and the controls, I know the foot controls are for bucket two centers ones are for aux (nothing hooked up to) and the two stick forward reverse, but there is a lever on the left side of seat that goes down into the engine area and attaches to some type or hydraulic valve, I have no idea what this is used for
it is going to need some repairs, such as a starter ring gear, that large wide drive belt that runs for looks to be hydraulic pump to shaft that go outside to wheel area,
and it has a line leak, there are little things that are worn with it, but it runs, moves the bucket smoothly up down an d tilts,
, BUT it does not stop moving when you release the drive levers, like no brakes at all. IOW when they are in the neutral position it will roll, I bought it on flat land and did not catch that, he loaded it and a friend of mine unloaded it here, that is when he told me.There is no using it on a hill right now!
so what makes this stop besides pulling sticks back to go other direction? is there no "brake" to this at all? i have drove my friends New holland skid steer once and you could park it on a hill and walk away from it. BTW, I did send a message to mustang this am asking for a operator manual on it. and gave them the serial number so I can hope to find what year it is. I have seen some information for other model mustangs, but not a 440.
any help or pointing me in the right direction would be great, thank you - some pics attached is i can
