i have been looking for an old tobacco setter to restore and use behind my jd that was my grandpas. i have come across this unit and was looking for an id of it manufactorer preferrably. i'm from the ct river valley area, so i'm not sure if there were local makers of these out here and if they're different than the units down south. thanks for any help, jim

My Granddad had 1 just like it. When I was 10-12 years old I set tobacco on that transplanter over many acres, however, I dont remember the brand? Ken Sweet

sweettractors, how does 1 use this type of setter in my pics? i have sat and done work on the type where you drop the transpalnt into a tube when the wheel comes around. is this the type that puts a water spot down and then you drop the plant in the hole? either way for $50 i think i'm going to get it and restore it and then hook it to my jd h, as something a bit different than the norm for my parts, almost all the tobacco and veggie farms in the ct valley used farmalls.

Can't help with the ID but know of another in South Windsor CT. MY BILs friend dragged one out of an old tobacco shed where it laid unused since the late 60's on his families land. After they got it cleaned up his 83 yo great grandmother rode on the back & taught them how to plant. She planted with it drawn by horses as a child. If you take a ride over to South Windsor you'll probably find someone planting or that has just finished. MikeD74T

I am not sure if the water ran all the time or just when the plant was inserted into the slot. Powell is the only name I can come up with and don't hold me to that. You can put other crops in the garden or truck patch with these type machine. Just drop the seed inthe slot and the machine does the rest. Ken Sweet
