I've been thinking about getting a garden tractor. I have a lawn tractor that I find very handy because it is nimble and I often use it to pull wagons, but I'm asking more of it than it was meant to do and it's starting to show the abuse. I also like that it's easy to drive, I can have kids or other untrained people help me even if I wouldn't trust them on a tractor. I notice on Craigslist that garden tractors from 20,30, 40 or even 50 years ago still pop up regularly, and still command respectable money. I think I like the old-school style better than what is sold as garden tractors today, the old ones seem more versatile, the new ones just seem like lawnmowers that have been beefed up. In particular I want something with decent ground clearance because I have a lot of uneven terrain. I'd like something that could pull a wagon with 1500 pounds that a teenager could drive, that way the kids could help with bringing in the hay.
