Hello, I bought a used older post hole digger. There are no markings on it but I have started painted it. It leaks a bit of oil. Can anyone tell by the pictures what brand it is? Thanks
Most of the vintage generic 3 point post hole diggers had a lot of interchangeable parts . For instance your boom and u bolt 3 point mount looks very similuar to my old International / World Agritech Corp shown in my pic . I can share with you that that hole you have in your gear box was , is so the tractor operator could turn around and grab a "rod" that goes inserted in that gear box an align the auger better to were he wanted to dig the hole (in theory). (check out pic ) . Two of the basic gear boxes back then were a Comer or an Omni . Yours to me looks more like a Omni brand but I wouldnt swear on it . Also your gearbox to me looks to be rated for and up to 35 HP .
I think I might have had that digger too. Mine was a Green Line; I think the company was in business for about 3 months. Mine turned into a leaker but once I switched to using good old grease I never had any leaks for the last 10 years I owned it. The guy who bought it off me said it worked for him just fine for another 15 years until he sold it. The one I had even had a zerx fitting on it as "standard equipment". When I look at your pictures I wonder if the hole in the top of your gearbox might be for a grease fitting?
The pictures you show look exactly like the older Speeco model 70 like I bought well used a number of years ago..
Like you have done, some TLC, and tightening up of some joints and it works well.. It can be cheaper to top off gear oil occasionally rather than to open a hornets nest of problems trying to replace gaskets and seals..
