I`m wanting to change the oil and filter in my new to me Shibaura 14/1400
I know about the Ford models and this one is closer to 1200 Ford than the 1100. I`m thinking I can probably get a filter from my New Holland dealer. What type of oil would I need here in East Tenn....should be too cold till next winter anyway. Any flushes I should use before draining....is really black lookin` . Any good additives when I refill the oil....Seafoam etc.
Appreciate any help I can get. Engine number is LEO752B 742cc

I don't think you can go wrong with a quality 15W40 diesel oil.

As for cleaning up a engine nothing works better then 5W40 Mobil 1 full synthetic oil.

Pat1,
Diesel oil typically turns black after a few hours of run time. I wouldn't worry to much about cleaning as long as the oil has been changed at decent intervals.

I use the Mobil 1 5w 40.

I am using Shell Rotella T dino oil right now 10W30. Going to change to Rotella T synthetic 10W30 as soon as my supplier gets it.

If you go with what the owners manual tells you, ya can't go too far wrong.

For Tennessee, I don't think you need anything less than 15W for cold starts. 15W-40 Shell Rotella T6 synthetic is what I use but if you want to go with regular Dino oil Shell Rotella T is a bit cheaper. Mobil 1 is also a good brand to use as well as just about any other top brand name oil. Just like todays tractors, most brands are good. Some folks even swear by the Walmart Tech oils.

Just make sure you buy the oil specified for diesel engines and not gasoline. I believe those for diesel have an SC rating.

"15W-40 Shell Rotella T6 synthetic is what I use" gary fowler
actually it's 5/40 for Rotella T6 synthetic, guess you've figured that already. great product even down my way, imho T6 is a better choice than 15/40 grades given these extreme winter swings just imho, & not to start any oil wars. use T6 in all my 4stroke engines...... :)

Diesel rated oil codes will start with a C, gasoline engine oil starts with S. You will find a lot of oil, dino based, that are coded for both. I use 15W/40 in mine here on the Plateau with no problem.

I use Delo 400 15w-40 in all of my diesels. My wife's Powerstroke is right at 300k miles and my NH (Shibaura) is at 2,600 hrs. The local O'rielly's has it on sale for less than 12 bucks per gallon from time to time, so I stock up when they do.
