Oil Filter for LT 1046

I went to Lowe's today and picked up a filter for my first oil change. It is a generic filter made by ARNOLD it says it replaces the Kohler 5205002. I am trying to make sure this is the right one before I put it on.

I went to Lowes to pick it up because the dealer where I bought the mower at is 30 minutes from where I work and Lowe's is only 5.

I have looked and need to find out if this one will work. They are the same size. I have the CC part number for the filter but I can not find a cross reference between the Kohler and the CC filter.

Why don't you call the dealer where you bought the tractor and ask them. They should be able to give you the correct answer.

I am thinking of buying the LT 1046. How do you like it? Anything that you do find that stands out on the good or neg?

I would not put anything but a Kohler filter on it for warranty reasons. Once the warranty is out do whatever you want. If something goes wrong with your motor and they see you don't have a Kohler filter on there then...well you get the idea.

Ok, I called the dealer and the said that it was the right filter. Thanks for the advice. I changed the oil and looked at the filter and they are the same size and looked inside and they are identical from what I could see.

As far as the LT 1046 goes it is an awesome mower. It drives like a car. I have said it before but, I am 6' 4" and fell very comforatable. It has plenty of power and from what I have read is very reliable. I only have 10.5 hours on it. I currently only have 1 acre but in the near future I will have a few more.
If you compare the John Deere Mowers in this price range I found that The Cub Cadet has more to offer for the same price. I bought it after 2 months of searching and talking to people. I am pleased with my purchase. I hope this helps you decide what you want.

Al, look up a "5205002" on www.fram.com, www.wixfilters.com, or the likes to get an aftermarket equivelant. There is no need to use only a 'kohler' oil filter on your engine.

I did not get any accessories for it. I have a utility trailer that my father gave to me.

I live in Mobile, AL so i do not need a snowblower. although I would love to have one just for the neat factor. But it would just be a waste for me.

I am going to get the bumper for it.

It has a mulching kit so I will try that for the leaves in the fall to see if it will take care of them. If not I will look into a bagger.

And no blade for the front because once again I live in South Alabama.

Only thing I needed so far was the utility cart to pick up sticks.
I do not know what you would need where you live but to me that is all I need.

I hope you will enjoy the 1046. I do.

Well, I bought the 1046 today. I got a good deal on it because a competitor was selling their JD tractors with a free accessory worth 200. I told my CC dealer about it and asked him if he would match the offer and give me an aerator with the purchase of the tractor. I was going to buy the aerator at the same time anyway. He did, so I was able to buy the tractor and save 200. on the aerator.

I get delivery of the 1046 on Tuesday afternoon. I can't wait to try it out.

I have a new LT 1046, and I also would like to find a better oil filter for my machine. I have done a lot of internet searches, and it is a well known fact that Fram filters are not made very well. I would never buy another Fram from the info I have seen. Wix makes very good filters and the correct replacement for the Kohler #1205001 that is the current stock filter is Wix #51056. CarQuest also sells filters that are made by Wix. Their number for the "Blue" or premium filter is 51056. The Wix filters have the same by-pass valve setting of 8 - 11 psi and the Wix has a better micron rating of 19. I believe the Kohler is rated at 28 microns. Also, I have found out that Shell Rotella T 15w-40 petroleum oil is a very good oil. I plan on using it for my first oil/filter change at five hours, and on into the future. Did you find a lot of reputable negative information about Fram filters or did you just happen to read the many posts from a certain individual who seems to have a personal vedetta against Fram? I used to alternate between AC and Fram filters for 3-4 household vehicles, a motor home, motor home generator, and tractors. I've never had a problem with any of them that I could attribute to the oil filter. I had 2 GM diesel cars (80 Bonneville and 82 Cadillac) with the infamous 350 V8 diesel and changed filters (usually Fram) every 3,000 miles. I traded in the Cadillac but the Bonneville ran until the engine blew at 145,000 miles. I personally like AC filters but it's almost impossible to find anything but Fram at discount stores like Walmart and Kmart.
