I ordered 38 oz of oil, but I just today saw my tractor says the capacity is 68. Is the capacity really 68 or is that to the top of the tank (is 68 to the line on the dip stick or the the cap top?)

The "full" line on the dipstick --you need to buy more oil.

Can you give us the make/model of the tractor? Lawn tractor, I presume?

Engine type and size?

By way of reference, my Briggs & Stratton 18 hp take 1 1/2 quarts or 48 ounces. I'm very careful not to over-fill. Read and re-read that dipstick. That is what you have to trust.

And check your owner's manual about reading the dipstick. I have mowers with Kawasaki and Honda engines. The manuals for both state that the dipstick should not be screwed in when taking a reading.
