I am trying to solve a starting problem with my 861D so I plan to buy a spray can of ether based starting fluid and see if that will help. Also, I decided to replace the oil in the oil cup. My oil bath filter is the cylindrical one bolted to the hood with the oil cup on the bottom. This is the first time I have changed this oil since I purchased the tractor. When I removed the cup from the cylindrical, the oil cup had a lot of gunk in it. The best way to describe it is, it looked like what you would see in a crankcase due to moisture, that grey milky color. So I'm confident water got into the cup. Not sure how it could get in there because the cylindrical has a cap and the band and screw clamp that was pretty snug.
Anyway, it appears to me I need to clean more than just the inside of the oil bath cup. I think the inside of the cylindrical needs to be cleaned as well, which would require me removing the unit from the stand pipe.
My question is, if I remove the unit from the stand pipe can it be opened so I can clean the inside. I feel like it needs to be done because if not, then the grey milky oil up in the cylindrical will drip down into the fresh oil.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
