I have had good luck with lucas oil treatment in two Kenworths and a Peterbilt with mobil delvac 15/40. All three trucks had different engines. Has anybody used this in a tractor?
I haven't used it, but I've seen it in the stores. I'm curious too. The premise is interesting and their little gear display is fun to play with but I have questions: Does this stuff break down to form sludge like I've heard some additives do? What effect does it have on cold flow at start-up? How does it compare in price/performance to the numerous synthetics? Perhaps a rep will read this and be brave enough to enlighten us.
.......Also, their display has plastic gears. Does your engine have any? Does it work the same on steel gears as well as on the plastic?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif G

I don't know about a new engine.. but I've used it in 'worn' engines.
For instance.. for the last 2 years I've been substituting a quart of lucas for a quart of 30wt oil in my 5.5qt oil change for my ford N tractor bumped my oil pressure 10 psi on the hot and cold side..
Again.. that's not proof of much other than it improves viscosity... And Up until now.. I havn't put much time per year on my N's.. so the oil more or less comes out just a hair darker than it went in a year ago...
However.. Now that I've traded in my 33 hp NH 1920 on a big Nh 7610 for some real HD mowing.. I will now be using my N to toe a 5' hog all year... so we will see after this mowing season how it holds up under use.
Yeah, an in-depth report would be cool. One of us has to mark the calendar to remind you. Who knows -- next year we might all be buying stock in Lucas due to the increased sales revenue they get thanks to the curious at TBN!
<font color="green">The "study" at this web site may be relevant to this discussion about additives. It shows Lucas additive causing oil to climb gears better at low speed but also shows the additive contributing to oil foaming at higher speed due to entrapment of air bubbles.
Wow.
Thanks for the article. The author is right -- you can't foresee all the variables when playing with additives. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
I've heard and seen foaming issue's with ford powerstrokes and cat's 3126 series and seen some those lucas demonstrators if u twirl it fast enough there own demonstrators foam the oil.. However a cold oil like that and heavier oils do tend to entrap oil so u have to take that into account everythings relative.. it's untelling how fast the wheels gears are turning 200mph on a bota wouldn't be fun and don't think u'd be worrying bout the oil foaming lol
I have to tell this story: My wife bought an import (hatchback,5spd) w/ 20 k on it.The car was a year old back in "97. I read a service bulletin on changing the trans. lube from (OEM) gear oil to ATF..ASAP. So I did. At about 75 k the trans. delveloped a noise in 5th gear. I went back to gear oil and it showed a slight improvement. A Tech. in the shop at the place where I work gave me a qt. of Lucas. I replaced a qt. of gear oil with it and after about 50 miles the noise was gone. It never came back.
VW uses stabadyne (fuel pump maker spelling?) exclusively and saab had a OEM bulliten if noise in automatice is heard 1st use a product called transfix or something red container very popular to solve it's noise problem. So some OEM's do advocate oil/fuel additives.. I know ford uses a special breakin fuel additive for injectors just incase to help prevent seizure when first installed..
