Agree. I only swap out as the old ones died off. I changed out my shop To led as my old high output ballast were starting to fail and I had left over led lamps from several jobs. All it cost me was my time needed to remove the ballast and swap wiring within the fixture to direct wire.

For the most part LED lamps cost more than they will save. Ive run figures all of the time. Only time the figures worked were when the utility companies provided cash back.

The only other time figures work out is if the fixtures are for a new building. Than the price differences were not so huge. It’s the retrofitting figures that never pencil out.

If you replace a 100 Watt incandescent bulb with a 13 Watt LED and you have electric heat: You aren't saving a penny on the 87 Watt lighting difference. Your electric heat just has to run longer to make up that 87 Watts of lighting.
Electrical savings of LED's only come during non-heating season.

On my rental property the summer Tennent asked why there was lights in the lake!

Well the winter folks had installed an Xmas tree for skating at night and naturally the snow and ice melted and the light string simply sunk to the lake bottom.
The darn lights worked just fine underwater!
BUT, I still wonder how much power was being consumed.
LOL, could have been a shocking situation!
