Odd looking critter

I went out to open the gate for My wife at 5 am this morning . I take a handheld flood light with me so I can see & have it open before she comes around the drive . I,m used to seeing all kinds of critters that earlly . But this morning I saw something it took me awhile to figure out what it was .

It was to big to be a cat . pure white , no pink eyes . First I thought it was a fox, then maybe a pig . It was pacing back & forth in front of me about 10 foot away . Having a lot of racoons around Our place I thought that might be what it was .

It finally took off for the feild & disapeared of coarse i didn,t have a camera with Me . After googling it & seeing a few pics I,m sure thats what it was a white racoon . Acording to what I found they are very rare . This did not appear to be an albino .

I,ll start taking my camera with me & hopefully it will stick around long enough to get a few pics next few days .


But without the mask & the regular colors they are quite odd looking. I,m just curious if any others have seen any . Bob

Had one on my place 15 years ago but I've never seen another one. Beautiful critter.

How bout an "Opossum" Bob? I don't know if they are native to your state or not but they are now known to travel by truck to non native areas,....for instance, all the way into Ontario. We have them under the deck all winter "only", and they come on the deck at night to eat the bird feeder droppings. In spring they wander and quickly become road kill.

They won't necessarily run away from you, but tend to just duck down and hide their eyes. Some say they are good eating?

They are known to climb on 18 wheeler undercarriages at a truck or rest stop in Virginia and jump or fall off in places like Ontario and possibly your area???

Do you know the Opossum,....could it be?

Howdy Tug, Nope I have more opossums then I got cats & racoons & I got plenty of them. But I was close enough to eliminate the tail from anything other then a fox or racoon .

At first I wasn,t sure . But it pretty much looked like the pic tallyho8 posted . & paced back & forth like a racoon . Just without the mask it looked really odd . But sure was interesting to see .

I,m hoping I can get a pic or 2 if it sticks around long enough . I was just curious if others had seen them or caught them on there wildlife cam. So far just 2 of Us it looks like so far . Bob
