For many in Michigan October 1st means the opening day of archery deer season. At our house it means the official start of Halloween decorating season. She Who Must be Obeyed is very serious about this. The weather cleared up today- great day for her to put the outside lights on our split rail fence. One MAJOR complication. Over the winter I borrowed HER staple gun. Where did I put that fool thing????? See she bought a nice new design staple gun- much easier on the hands than my old blister maker...... A reminder- just because the tool you borrow is owned by a family member- do yourself a favor and return it! Better yet, just go buy yourself one!!!
I will try to post some photos when we are done.

While there is certainly a fair amount of decorating and such, it always seemed to me that Halloween is not as big a deal in Texas as in the northeast part of the country. However, the last couple of days, the Wal*Marts in the area have moved and/or disposed of their lawn and garden stuff and I've never seen so much Halloween stuff. Apparently Wal*Mart thinks Halloween is going to be big this year.

Morning goliedad.
Glad the weather clearing(wet and wild in NH today) so you can get early jump on decorating season.

"A reminder- just because the tool you borrow is owned by a family member- do yourself a favor and return it! Better yet, just go buy yourself one!!!"...very wise words. :)

October for us double checking to make sure we are ready for colder temps along w/mother nature winter blanket....where did 06 go??

Morning Bird.
Heck our WalMart's & Kmart's already have Chirstmas goodies on the floor for time now...seems each year department stores are two seasons ahead of our needs at the time. :(

Without going in to specifics, the City of Mt Washington Kentucky is predominantly of one religion that discourages "pagan rituals" such as Holloween. (At least this individual church) We're not in th city limits, but the property right across the road is. We can see several homes from our front porch that are in city limits. Last year was our first Holloween here. We were prepared! LOADS of candy!

And we saw 2 kids all night.

I had to eat 16 dozen Reeses bars over the next few months. (Can you say SUGAR BUZZ!!!! My post count was off the charts for a while)

This year it's a little more restrained in terms of candy buying. (By order of the Grand Decision Maker)

Our Walmarts are filled with Halloween stuff, too. Never in 13 years has a kid come trick or treating around here. I'm not sure I'd know what to do if one showed up. "Uhh... would you like a bagel?" probably wouldn't go over well.

FarmwithJunk- I hope I'm not opening a religous can of worms here, but that's too bad. Rest assured we will not be moving to Mt Washington anytime soon! Maybe a visit- not in October.....

No worms escaping from my can anyway. (A) we're not members of THAT church. (B) They don't force their will upon the rest of us, just that about 50% of the town belongs and the other 50% respects their feelings on the subject. Holloween isn't a big deal here. All in all, it's a great place to live. VERY conservative, quiet, and friendly. If you were dropped in here with no idea of when or where you were, you'd think it was 1956 and not 2006.

Trick or Treaters are met at the end of our driveway with a locked gate. If they are brave enough to hurdle the fence and come up our 1000ft driveway our Chesapeake Bay Retriever will give them a treat that they will not desire. Our local private school puts on a Halloween Extravaganza that pulls in 10,000 visitors in a 2 weekend ordeal. Its pretty cool with Hayrides, Haunted House, etc.... for the kids.

We've actually had very few trick or treaters ourselves, but I think the main reason is because some kids were given poisoned candy quite a number of years ago, so each year the news media reminds everyone, and lots of parents are afraid to let their kids go trick or treating anymore.
